To make it easy for people to join in – whether you're an experienced MoneySaver or not – MSE has created its own version of the 1p Savings Challenge tracker. If you started on January 20 you could add £2.10 on your first day, and then resume the challenge as normal on January 21, when you'd save 21p. So if you join on January 5 you could put 15p in your pot then save 6pm the following day. So add up the totals to come up with what would be in the pot by the date you start and then carry on as if you started at the beginning. If you started on 1 January 2023, then by 31 December 2023 you'll have saved £667.95. So you save what you saved the day before, plus a penny more each day – right the way up to £3.65 saved on the last day of December. On January 2 you save 2p then 3p on January 3 and then keep doing the same for the full year. Scores of people have done the challenge over the years and it is straightforward to follow. It is a fun way to see your savings stack up - and by the end of the year if you follow it correctly you will have a stash of £667.95. So Martin Lewis' Money Savings Expert website has come up with an ideal way of putting cash away over the year - the 1p challenge. For even when we have the means to save it can still find us unprepared. Christmas might come every year but for many of us you'd think it was a surprise. ![]()
